In 2008 the U.S congress established the Iqbal Masih award for the Elimination of Child Labor. The award recognizes exceptional efforts by an individual, company, organization, or national government in ending the worst forms of child labor.
Iqbal Masih was a Pakistani child that was sold into labor as a carpet weaver at 4 yeas old. At 10 he escaped and became an advocate for children rights. He brought international attention to the fight against labor. Masih was killed in Pakistan in 1995.
